Crowning Moment at Bristol Care

Patricia wins Miss Bristol Manor of Maryville 2015

In August we crowned the Miss Bristol Manor of Maryville! Congratulations to Ms. Patricia as the Miss Bristol Manor of Maryville 2015, Ms. Helen as 1st Runner Up and Ms. Sally as 2nd Runner Up!

How do you become Miss Bristol Manor of Maryville? To add some extra fun to this friendly competition, this year we decided to ask each resident who entered to write a short story or statement of why they liked living at Bristol Manor in Maryville.

Here’s what our resident contestants had to say:

Patricia, Miss Bristol Manor of Maryville 2015:
"Bristol Manor makes me want to live!"

Helen, 1st Runner Up:
“We have our privacy, but still we are made to feel safe and secure.”

Sally, 2nd Runner Up:
“I have lived in six different states and visited people in facilities made for seniors, and I didn’t feel at home as I do here at Bristol Manor in Maryville."

Shirley:
"I like Bristol Manor because it is a small crowd and the chatter at meal times adds flavor to the meal."

Helen:

“It is small, so you get to know everyone and you are comfortable being around and doing things with them."

Rose:
"Bristol Manor is a pretty good place to live. I get to eat what I want and go whenever and wherever I want."

Dona:
“I reared six children and I have prepared many meals.  So it is a great feeling not to prepare meals and do the dishes."

Bristol Care Employee Spotlight

Donna Hazlett, Quality Assurance Director for Bristol Care

Is there a way to learn more about the people of Bristol Care?

Our newest blog series, appearing several times a month, will introduce you to the staff and residents who have become like family at Bristol Care. This month we invite you to meet Donna Hazlett, our Quality Assurance Director.

After 11 years at Bristol Care (and more than 20 in the health care industry), Donna has high expectations for the 64 communities we serve. After all, she says, “Our residents helped build this nation and I think they deserve the best care available.” That’s why she loves being a part of our organization, which is proud to offer a clean and home-like environment at every Bristol Care location.

From memories of practical jokes and reverse Bingo to picnics in the park, Donna credits her experience at Bristol Care as “like having a second family.” Her favorite thing is being able to put a smile on a resident's face and knowing she is able to touch their life in a positive way. What makes Donna fall in love with this line of work? She loves being able to help others.

Bristol Care Co-Sponsors Free Health Fair for Seniors

How can Bristol Care help me learn more about resources available for area seniors?
You might be surprised to learn that our commitment extends beyond the residents in our neighborhoods. At Bristol Care, our employees are dedicated to making a real difference in each community we serve.

As part of that commitment, we were proud to co-sponsor the Senior Resource Health Fair on June 25, a free event for the public in Sedalia, Missouri. Together with the Sedalia Senior Center and Gentiva Home Health, we brought together important resources for area seniors and their families — the Pettis County Health Department, pharmacy representatives, hospice companies and more.

“I was able to network with my colleagues in the healthcare field, and make a difference for seniors in our community!”  - Bristol Care Employee, Dawn Dillon

Bristol Care representatives were on hand to answer questions and provide information about local residential living options. Door prizes for attendees included one free massage session, teeth cleaning and dental screening, a three-month membership to a local gym, and various beauty products!

Even if you were unable to attend, you can still learn more about opportunities at Bristol Care communities by visiting our website.

Celebrating Bristol Care's Commitment to Care

How do you find the right residential care community for your loved one?

It’s a question we’re asked every day — and one that’s never easy to answer.  Each senior adult we serve is different, with varying interests and levels of need. But a sure way to find peace of mind is finding an organization committed to delivering the highest standards of care.

That explains why so many Missouri families — and caregivers — were celebrating recently, when many of our communities were awarded the Certificate of Excellence by the Missouri Assisted Living Association.

Signifying a “Deficiency Free” status for 2014, the award was given to 22 Bristol Care locations: Aurora, California, Camdenton, Carthage, Centralia, Eldon, Elsberry, Fulton, Jefferson City, Lamar, Laurie, Lincoln, Montgomery City, Nevada, Ozark, Pleasant Hill, Republic, Sedalia, Stover, Unionville, Washington and Webb City.

In a time when the senior living industry sometimes seems to thrive on negative publicity, we’re excited to share good news we’ve known for a long time — that Bristol Care provides consistent, quality healthcare to residents throughout Missouri.

Here’s what Missouri Assisted Living Association Director Keith Sappington had to say:  “One of our state’s greatest treasures is our seniors, and they deserve the finest in care.”

We couldn’t agree more.  Here’s to growing our list in 2015!
